Toufik Benedictus was born in Jaffa, in 1952, in the new state of Israel to Palestinian parents of Greco-Egyptian, Palestinian and Armenian-Lebanon heritage.

Hinn was raised in the Eastern Orthodox tradition and was baptized by the Patriarch of Jerusalem.

Immediately after the 1967 Arab-Israeli War (“Six Days War”), Hinn’s family immigrated to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, in 1968, where he attended Georges Vanier High School in England but he was unable to complete the schooling.

Benny states in his book, that his father was the mayor of Jaffa at the time of his birth and that he was socially isolated as a child and stuttered, but was nonetheless a first-rate student.

Benny was invited to speak about his spiritual experience at Trinity Pentecostal Church in Oshawa and announced that he had been cured of his stutter in 1974.

Benny Hinn became a born-again Christian in 1972.

Hinn rented a bus on December 21, 1973, from Toronto to Pittsburgh to attend a “miracle ceremony” led by missionary Kathryn Kuhlman. Although he has never met Benny personally, he often attends his “healing sessions” and often considers Kathryn an influential person in his life.

In 1999, he resigned as pastor of the Orlando Christian Center and moved his administrative headquarters to Grapevine, Texas, a suburb of Fort Worth, while hosting This Is Your Day from Orange County’s Orange County television studio.
