Tony Cox was born on March 31, 1958, in Uniontown to Henrietta Cox-Penn and his father Joe Cox. He grew up in Uniontown, Alabama town with his family, where he spent his childhood with his maternal grandparents, Henry Jones, and Lottie. Tony became the drummer for Zealous and fell in love with music at age 10. He attended Alabama State University.

Cox started his acting career after watching Billy Barty, a minor actor and founder of the Little People of America organization. However, In 1976, he moved to Los Angeles and began classes at the Merrick Studio Acting School with screenwriter De De Tillman and began acting in television, film, and commercial roles.

The first movie he participated in was Dr.Heckyl and Mr. Hype as Bad William in 1980.

He is generally known for his roles in the seasonal Christmas movie Bad Santa (as Marcus, the mastermind of the safe crack duo) and Date Movie (Hitch’s parody of Dr. Hitch).

Cox also played a central role in the Farrelly Brothers film Me, Myself and Irene, as a member of Mensa International who stole Jim Carrey’s character’s wife.
